Annotation:
The website of Zero to Three- a national non-profit organization focused on ensuring the healthy physical, mental, social and emotional development of very young children.

Personal Reaction:Zero to Three is a national nonprofit organization that “informs, trains and supports professionals, policymakers and parents in their efforts to improve the lives of infants and toddlers”. This organization focuses on healthy physical, mental, social and emotional development of very young children, so early literacy is just a portion of their focus. Resources on the website are intended mainly for childcare providers and advocates, but information directed towards parents is also included. Zero to Three also publishes academic research on infants and toddlers in its eponymous journal.

Zero to Three presents solid basic information about early literacy and development for those who parent and work with young children. The information they produce is somewhat academic in nature, and not necessarily accessible to all stakeholders. Whereas Reading Rockets offers information in several languages, Zero to Three is solely in English. For those whom English is a second language, some material would likely be daunting.

Overall, this is a strong resource for the latest research and science of early childhood development and emergent literacy, but its academic focus limits its audience.

Audience: educators, health professionals, policy makers, childcare professionals, parents

Strengths: in-depth, scientifically backed research

Weaknesses: material may be too academic to be widely accessible for all
